Editorial

It is an honor for me to succeed Gary Mesibov as Editor. Since its inception the Journal has been dedicated to advancing the field and it is a testament to its ability to do so that publications have increased in both number and sophistication. From the time the Journal first appeared, under the leadership of Leo Kanner, to the editorship of Eric Schopler and our European Editor Michael Rutter it has consistently sought to advance our understanding of autism and related condition. As part of this tradition Gary has maintained high scientific standards while also remaining committed to advancing the work of investigators new to the field. I thank him, and Kathie Barron, for their assistance in managing the transition process and hope that we can aspire to the same high standards. …
